This year, our Chapter is offering 2 Post-Festival Trip opportunities, both all-day trips leaving at 6 am. The Chapter will provide a van and experienced leaders for each trip, which would be open to 3-5 people each.
One trip–Freezout Lake–would target east-side species such as Upland Sandpiper, Clark’s Grebe, American Bittern, Black-crowned Nigh-Heron, McCowan’s and Chestnut-sided Longspurs, Golden Eagle, Ferruginous Hawk, Long-billed Curlew, Marbled Godwit, and Willet. Leader, Larry Weeks.
Trip 2–Bannack area for southwestern Montana specialties would target Gray Flycatcher, Brewer’s Sparrow, Sage Sparrow, Sage Thrasher, Loggerhead Shrike, and Ferruginous Hawk. We would also visit Clark Canyon Reservoir looking for shorebirds, waterfowl, and gulls, and grasslands and shrub-steppe for McCown’s Longspur, Green-tailed Towhee, Long-billed Curlews and possible owls. The leaders would be Thomas Kallmyer and Jeff Marks.
